At first when I realize I’ve let bananas go bad on the counter, I feel guilty. Then I remember it’s an excellent excuse to bake banana things, like bread, muffins, and cupcakes. Then I feel happy.
Bright, light, citrusy, floral, nutty and sweet. These cupcakes are infused with orange zest, coriander seed, and vanilla. Then finished off with swirly orange blossom frosting.
It’s starting to feel like a lot like Spring! There are these gorgeous pink and white cherry blossoms all over the place, and daffodils popping up out of the grass. The change in weather seemed worthy of a cupcake celebration.
I made these for dinner the other night, in a classic ‘breakfast for dinner’ maneuver. Though, it was past midnight, so maybe it was technically breakfast for breakfast? I tore them open and piled them full with cheesy scrambled eggs, sautèed onion, and slices of crispy bacon.
Happy Valentines Day! I hope you use this holiday as an excuse to bake something fantastic, and dye it pink, or cover it in an excessive amount of hearts like I did.
I take a lot of pictures that don’t make it on to this blog. Mainly, because I don’t have a recipe to go along with them. Little daily scenes, like breakfast, cups of coffee, and favorite tidbits. It makes me kind of sad to not put them on here, because the shots of little daily moments are often my favorite ones, even if they lack substance. I once read that when creating content, you need to think of what it’s offering to the reader. With recipes, I feel like the contribution is evident. Just a photo paired with my words though, is a little less obvious. What I would be offering to the reader, becomes murkier.
Look! A savory thing! I’ve really been meaning to populate this blog with a variety of food types, but I fear I’m doomed to always be posting about dessert. It’s not really a problem per se, just not how I envisioned the content of this website skewing.
I think it’s perfect that citrus season comes in winter. You would think by looking at a juicy pink grapefruit, that it would be a product of sunny skies and warm temperatures. But lemons, oranges, tangerines, kumquats, and of course grapefruits are at their best right as the weather is gloomy and cold. They’re like little balls of reserve sunshine, to be consumed when you need a little taste of summer. I need some ‘consume in case of gloom’ stickers for the pink grapefruits on my counter.
